Whatever documents are registered in the Sub Registrar Office’s, their copy can be taken out from the Sub Registrar Office’s at any time, which we know as true copy or certified copy
Certified copy of any document which is registered in the office of Sub Registrar can be obtained anytime.
Documents which are registered in Book 1 as per Indian Registration Act 1908, can be obtained by any person in the form of certified copy by applying to the Sub Registrar’s office.
And the Documents which is registered in Book 3 and Book 4 can only be obtained by the person who has executed that document or in whose name is executed in other words you are the party in that document (as First Party or Second Party).

As per above said description, it is understood that the certified copy of which type of documents can be obtained from the Sub Registrar Office’s. Now know how and in which office it can be obtained.
All those documents which are registered on or before the year 1994 have been recorded and transferred by digital rope in Department of Delhi Archives 18A, Satsang Vihar Marg, New Delhi 110067.
And the documents which are registered after 1994 are kept in locality wise Sub Registrar Office’s.
Before 2001, the entire Delhi Sub Registrar Office was the same, which today we know as Sub Registrar 1 Old Court Kashmir Gate which is still located and working at Old Court Compound Kashmir Gate Delhi 110006 (Near Ritz Cinema).
That is, whatever documents are registered before 2001, they can be obtained by applying to the Sub Registrar 1 Kashmir Gate!
And the documents which is registered after year 2001, has to be registered in the Sub Registrar Office’s locality wise in Delhi.

Now Let’s know how the application for certified copy can be given in the Sub Registrar Office.
Step 1
There should be a form of certified copy that can be obtained from the link given below, it will be downloaded and filled in which the following data will be required
- Registered Document Date
- Document Number
- Volume Number
- Page from – to
- Document Registered under Book No
- Sub Registrar Office Name
- Applicant Name
- Applicant Mobile Number
Step 2
After filling the form, a court fee will be affixed on it and a e-stamp paper of Rs.10 will be attached in the name of the applicant.
Step 3
After completing both the above steps, the form will be submitted to the concerned Sub Registrar Office’s between 9 am to 1 pm and on submission some government fees will be deposited by debit and credit card and after submission of form. A receipt will be given which is proof that the application has been accepted.
Step 4
After completion of above steps, a message will come on the mobile number which was given by you while applying, in which it will be written that your certified copy has been prepared and you can collect it from the Sub Registrar Office’s.
Step 5
You will get your certified copy by handing over the receipt to the Sub Registrar Reception Counter.
